SOME LEGEND - CNY

Long time ago, there was this legend.



There is a monster/ beast called Nian that lives under the sea or in the mountain. It came out to attack people especially children every spring season or during Chinese New Year. Nian is sensitive and afraid of noises and red color. That is why color of RED is everywhere during the Chinese New Year, Lion dance with noisy drum rhythm, red flower crackers which would scare off the Nian monster. Nian has not appeared in front of human again after a Chinese village had chased away Nian with firecrackers, red color & noise.



Believed that Nian still living in the jungle and mountain, because of worried for it appear again, Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year with red, lion dance, tang lung, red ang pao, red firecrackers, fireworks ect. Here come Chinese New Year celebration with lots of tradition.



Legend for ang pao



Long time ago, coin had been tighten with red string and been put in an envelope. Chinese people would place the envelope next to their pillow and they believe that the envelope will bring good luck and protect them from sickness. When people given you ang pao, it actually means that people wishing you to have a good health.

Dog

Pig

Those animals are real except dragon but dragon always symbolic of power and strength.



Legend for Dragon

Dragon does not exist but ancient Chinese people has designed a combination of 5 animals to become a dragon features.

Ox as its head and ears;

Snake as its body;

Eagle as its leg;

Deer as its beautiful horn and,

Fish as its scale.

Add little bit of moustache and fin. Normally people colored dragon as green color, some are red and some are gold depends on the picture’s usage.



How true was the above legend nobody knows somehow I’ll check out more and will share more with you guys in coming posting. ;)
